2nd Annual Radiant Waves Lantern Parade this Saturday, September 27 / 2do Desfile Anual de Luces “Olas Radiantes” este sábado 27 de septiembre
The Radiant Waves Lantern Parade is back for its second year, and this year we will be on BIKES! Join us with your bikes and lanterns this Saturday, September 27 at 6pm on the Midtown Greenway next to Venture Bikes (see map), so we can radiate light and community joy into the night!
We will bike together with our lanterns to Bde Maka Ska and back to Venture Bikes (2.5 miles each way, biking at a slow pace). There will be FREE FOOD from Sister’s Camelot and live music from Unlawful Assembly at the end outside Venture Bikes. We will have plenty of extra lanterns for your bikes, and BikeMN will provide 20 free bikes to borrow for the ride if you don’t have one!
Be sure to bring your lantern, bike lights and helmet to the Radiant Waves Bike Lantern Parade this Saturday, September 27 on the Greenway from 6-10pm!
El Desfile de Luces Olas Radiantes regresa por segundo año, ¡y este año iremos en BICICLETAS! Acompáñanos con tu bicicleta y linternas este sábado 27 de septiembre a las 6 pm en el Midtown Greenway, junto a Venture Bikes (ver mapa), para que podamos irradiar luz y alegría comunitaria en la noche!
Iremos en bicicleta juntos con nuestras linternas a Bde Maka Ska y de regreso a Venture Bikes (4 km de ida y 4 km de vuelta, a paso lento). Habrá comida gratis de Sister’s Camelot y música en vivo de Unlawful Assembly al final, frente a Venture Bikes. Tendremos muchas linternas adicionales para sus bicicletas, y BikeMN les proporcionará 20 bicicletas prestadas gratis para el recorrido si no tienes una.

Young Leaders Mural Inauguration Party this Friday! / Fiesta de Inauguración del Mural de los Jóvenes Líderes este viernes!
Our Young Leaders youth program created a gorgeous mural this summer to complement the butterfly garden at Iglesia San Pablo / St. Paul’s Church. The mural features wildflowers and plants that represent our roots in both Minnesota and Latin America and mosaics of pollinators! Join our community to celebrate this beautiful artwork made by our Young Leaders with leadership from artists Lynda Grafito and Nico Castillo.
The mural Inauguration Party is this Friday, September 26 6:30-9:30pm. We will have free tacos and sushi and live music from Alma Andina to celebrate! Everyone is welcome!

Mia Family Day October 12 / Día de la Familia en Mia
Semilla Center will be at Mia’s Family Day on October 12 for Hispanic Heritage Month! The theme is “Yo soy!” and Semilla artists will teach the community to create a mosaic featuring a hummingbird, mirrors, and colorful flowers. Learn more about Mia’s Family Day at their website.

The 2025 Mayday Ceremony, Parade & Festival was an enormous success – an art-filled joyous celebration of South Minneapolis’s community vibrancy! We estimate that 20,000-25,000 people attended this year’s Mayday, over 600 community members walked in the parade, and over 100 neighbors performed in the Tree of Life Ceremony.
Thank you, beautiful community for making this happen! You can still donate to support Mayday through the Mayday Sustainability Fund!
Also we send huge thanks to the Lake Street Lift Festivals grant that supported Mayday in 2025.

La Ceremonia, Desfile y Festival de Mayday del 2025 fue todo un éxito: ¡una celebración alegre y llena de arte que refleja la vitalidad comunitaria del sur de Minneapolis! Calculamos que entre 20,000 y 25,000 personas asistieron a Mayday este año, más de 600 miembros de la comunidad participaron en el desfile y más de 100 vecinos actuaron en la Ceremonia del Árbol de la Vida.

Mosaic Mondays / Los Lunes de Mosaico
During the month of August, artist Dani Bianchini led our Mosaic Monday crew in making gorgeous mosaics for the Hi-Lake Mural Project. They are currently being installed under the bridge at the Hiawatha Ave/Lake Street intersection! Be sure to watch the progress of this huge and impressive mural!
Join us every Monday from 6-8pm to make art in the Semilla Mosaic Monday Open Studio! Everyone is welcome to learn to make mosaics, and folks are also welcome to work on their own art projects in our studio, sharing space and good company.
