Semilla Center for Healing and the Arts
The Semilla Center believes that everyone has a story to tell. Learning how to write in a compelling way, and sharing your writing with other writers can be a transforming experience. We have a group of gifted writers who are also wonderful teachers of writers at any level. Workshops are held at our center and with partner organizations.
Our literary magazine, The Phoenix of Phillips, features writing by people who live, work or volunteer in our neighborhood. We publish a high-quality journal twice a year. Semilla Artists lead writing workshops at the Semilla Center and other Phillips locations: low-income senior housing, health clinic and after school and summer programs. These artists will also recruit and mentor co-teachers from the group. We try to practice our motto that “Everyone is a Learner and a Teacher”. We are committed to both the process of developing writers, and the product of a quality magazine that speaks from the community to the community and beyond.
