Las Posadas: A Community Peace Procession
Semilla Center and St. Paul’s Church co-hosted a traditional Posada and Peace Procession on December 16. Neighbors and friends created colorful lanterns at our workshops at the Midtown Global Market and Semilla Center, which we carried through the neighborhood while singing songs of peace and belonging in both Spanish and English, creating a beautiful spectacle of peaceful energy, light and community. The Posada tradition reminds us to welcome and care for those seeking refuge, and to share our light with one another. After the procession, we shared a delicious meal that included pozole and tamales, kids lined up to hit the piñata, and we all enjoyed our time together in community.

Las Posadas: Una Procesión Comunitaria por la Paz
Semilla y la Iglesia San Pablo organizaron conjuntamente una Posada tradicional y una Procesión por la Paz el 16 de diciembre. Vecinos y amigos crearon linternas coloridas en nuestros talleres en el Midtown Global Market y el estudio de Semilla, que llevamos por las calles mientras cantábamos canciones de paz en español e inglés, creando un hermoso espectáculo de energía pacífica, luz y comunidad. La tradición de Posada nos recuerda que debemos dar la bienvenida y cuidar a quienes buscan refugio y compartir nuestra luz unos con otros. Después de la procesión, compartimos una deliciosa comida que incluyó pozole y tamales, los niños hicieron fila para romper la piñata y todos disfrutamos de nuestro tiempo juntos en comunidad.

Poetry Signs on Bloomington Avenue
Artist Tim Blighton has created and installed 12 beautiful painted signs along Bloomington Avenue featuring lines of poetry from the Phoenix of Philips! The signs are posted along the Avenue between 22nd Street and 28th Street.
The poetry signs feature poems by: Sarah Degner Riveros, Patricia Anita Young, Belem, Semilla and Young Dance Collaboration (2018), Young Leaders, Dominic Arayo-Contantino, Manuel Herrera, Patrick Cabello Hansel (2016), Terrence, Bart Buch, Marcelo Pérez, and Fatima Vite (2015).
